Mom's Quilt

Good Monday Morning Everyone. Hope you had a relaxing, and peaceful weekend. I don't believe I shared this with you, however my hubby has been with me during my last few postings, and I loved getting his approval. He had surgery and almost two weeks at home with me. Today is his first day back to work and we miss him much. Hope you had a chance to have a look-see at our fur-babies. Remember, I mentioned how much I love to talk about them, but I will try not to bore you.
I don't have my hubby here with this post, but i'm sure he would like it, since it is about Mom. This quilt is one of my favorites, because of the bold colors. (Hop on over to our blog #2 to see more of Mom's quilts).
The white bed-cover was created by my sister Patricia (Pat). A Family of talent. Lord what happened to me? lol.

Good Sunday Morning

We hope all of you are healthy, happy, and joyful this morning. Sunday is important to our family because not only is it a day of tradition, it is a day for family worship, togetherness and family dinner. This tradition has been in our family for over seventy years and counting.
Who said Sunday dinner had to be fancy? At our house, we might do fancy occasionally, but having the
family together is more important to my Mother and her five girls.

Come Gather At Our Table...

Today's menu consist of red beans and rice, with down-home-sausages, home-made Louisiana hot-pepper-sauce, hot buttered crisp fried corn cakes, and for dessert a slice of spiced cake served with coffee.Yum! Yum!
It is our hope that peace be with you and your family this day of worship. Luv-Loretta

Hello Friends My Brunch Today

I thought I would have something lite this morning, but after I added my blackberry jam to these supposedly lite scones...leave it to me, I blew it again! But it was oh so marvelously tasty! lol. The spread is cream cheese that I spread on before adding the jam. It is mighty tasty! Wish you were here with me to enjoy it!

About All Those Other Task
I have gotten in seeds ordered for my gardens, and now all I need to do is, Get Started. Although I'm still

waiting on plants. Not to worry, this gives me time to head out to my little patch. I am not looking forward to this. It is a mess!

February A Month Of Celebration

Good Morning Friends. This month is filled with celebrations. Today is "Greet your Neighbor Day". For some of us it may be impossible to do so in person because of weather and hazardous conditions. But, we can certainly find other ways to do so. Phoning, texting; sending an e-mail, facebook, etc. Keeping in touch with your neighbors has never been easier. Why not share a hot breakfast with your neighbor.
February is "National Hot Breakfast Month". Sharing a hardy breakfast not only bring you together, but can also be beneficial and nutritional.
The hot breakfast below is a visual celebration from my family, to your family.  The menu: hot buttered grits, cinnamon toast, scrambled eggs, sausage, crisp bacon, all with fruit and fruit juice. Can I pour you another cup? Enjoy!
What a hardy breakfast to serve your family and neighbor!
Happy Celebration!

What"s Cooking in the Kitchen?

A big helping of Hoppin' John with Hot Water Cornbread. Yum! Yum!

Sometimes it is so hard to put dinner on the table, because you just don't know what its going to be! Each day I'm searching my menu planner, and begging my hubby to tell me what he wants to eat. Well, if they sold "I don't know" or, "you'll find something", I would have dinner ready seven days a week without the usual guessing game. Are you having this problem too? Well, I took an old staple, and put my spin on it and came up with a mighty tasty meal. To round out the meal, I serve this with sliced tomatoes, and Louisiana hot pepper sauce. Here's my recipe for this popular Southern dish:

Hoppin' John

4-5 slices of bacon (fried and drained)
1- medium onion, chopped
1/4 cup red, green, yellow, and orange, sweet peppers, chopped
1-cup long grain rice
1-can chicken broth and 1/2 can water
1-1/2 cup cooked black-eyed peas, (can peas are ok drained and rinsed)
1-teaspoon salt or to taste
Black pepper to taste
dash hot pepper sauce

Method:
Cook rice in broth and water until tender. If too dry add more broth. Set aside. Cook bacon until crisp. Drain on paper towel and set aside. Chop onions and saute them in a little of the bacon fat until tender. Add peppers, cook until tender. Add peas and pepper sauce. Heat thoroughly. Mix all ingredients together, with the exception of bacon, in a lightly greased casserole. Season to taste and add more broth if needed. Cover and put into a 350 degree over to heat. Crumble bacon on top and serve.Delicious!

Hot Water Cornbread:

3-Tablepoons plain corn meal
1-2, level Tablespoons plain flour
2-level Tablespoons baking-powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
sugar to taste if want
very hot water
Hot oil to fry(enough to just cover the bottom of the frying pan)

Method:
Mix all dry ingredients. Slowly add hot water until moistened. Take up a tablespoon of the mixture with moist hands and shape into a patty. Brown evenly on both sides. Drain on paper towel. Makes about 3. Enjoy!
