Hello, Greetings and All the Good Stuff!
I put my foot down! I was tired of eating hotdogs, Micky D's, and subs. I wanted a hot, down home cooked meal! The hubster knew I meant business so, he got up just before the grocery store closed the night before and bought a boat load, (well not that much), of food. I had no idea he was gone until he came into our bedroom and asked me to follow him. Imagine my surprise when I walked into the kitchen and saw all this food on the cabinet. Mercy! I about fainted! He turned to me and with this smirk, "Don't say another word about being hungry. There's enough food there to last a life time." Well, you know ~that~ wasn't the truth. All I could come back at him with was, Who's gonna cook it!" He threw up his hands and walked out of the kitchen leaving me to put it all away. He was not going to get away with this!
I lay in bed that night trying to think of a comeback but, I couldn't think of one lousy thing! The next day, Tuesday 20th, I still couldn't come up with anything. I sat at the table and bawled like a dummy. (If I don't stay on top of my game, he never let's me live it down!!) I couldn't think of anything...I was defeated for the first time! I can't give in though! He'll have this going until the kids come home for the holidays! Then, I'll have to hear and re-live it all over again!
Around 2PM, I went to the kitcken and started slinging pots, pans, knifes, mixers, bowls, etc., and the more I did this the madder I became. "I'll show you...you don't get me like this...I'll never let you beat me!" Or a close 2nd ...if you get my meaning! But, I finally had a plan...if only I could concertrate on bringing it together. I needed to calm myslf. I needed composure. I had my ammunition...all I need to do was spring it on him!
When calmness finally settled into my soul, I was happy, even started to hum. Ashley, my poodle, came up to me for a nice pat on the head and a big hug. He knew mom was happy now. And he knew mom's plan was on!
I finished around a quarter to 4! That including cutting and rinsing the greens with all that sand! The cake was finished and on the cabinet. Isn't it great how when needed, you can work under any circumstances ! LOL
At 4:15, the babies started to bark. They knew the hubster was home. "Dad's home", I said triumphly.
When he walked into the kitchen I was ready. If you could have seen the look on his face...it was priceless! He couldn't say a word as he stood there holding Subway bags. His nose told him the story and his eyes showed his defeated! We looked at each other and I proudly said, "Gotcha Dud"! We both burst into laughter! It took me all day but, I love it when my plan comes together!!!
Needless to say, we enjoyed the meal and he even complimented me saying, "This is the best meal you've ever cooked"! I didn't need to utter a comeback...it was a clean and smooth, dare I say, even finish!!
We love this side of our marriage. Playful, yes, and I've learned to put up with this side of him. It is not competition although it may sound that way. I really had to learn, after all, I did marry a younger man! The age difference doesn't make a difference, I just have to keep up. How am I doing? Hanging in, Huh?
Hope you all have a super rest of the week and enjoy each and every minute of your life! Thanks for stopping by. We just love having you. Come on back and see what's next...At Home with Loretta.

I just popped over to read what my blogger friends were up to and saw your post. I say you surely put your foot down on this meal. The photos show the dinner and cake well. I bet your hubby was happy he made the grocery store run :-) Enjoy all the yummy!

ReplyDeleteThis is one Ozark Farm Chick who just adores the playful side of our marriage. A girl's gotta have fun ya know!
Your home cooked meal looks delicious. Since the Ponderosa is stuck in the middle of Nowhere USA, most of what we eat is from 'scratch'. It's a real treat to eat somethin' I don't rustle up myself! Heeehehe!
From the happy hills and hollers of the Missouri Ponderosa, ya'll have a blessed and beautiful day!!! :o)
How cute! WHat kind of cake is that - it looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteHey sweetie, I just wanted to thank ya for your sweet comment and hoppin' on my blog. I sure hope ya'll enjoy the ride!!!
ReplyDeleteGod bless ya and in the word of that wild and crazy Granny Clampett, "Ya'll come back now, ya hear!!! :o)
What a feast you created! I rarely cook these days, but I'd sure love to have that in front of me. I'm hungry now.
ReplyDeleteGood thing the Subway could go in the refrigerator, ha. Your meal looks SO good. I've been craving some greens, but they are hard to find around here. But I'm meeting a friend for lunch tomorrow at a place where they do serve greens. Can't wait!
